{"id":54,"date":"2002-10-27T14:24:22","date_gmt":"2002-10-27T19:24:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alevin.com\/?p=54"},"modified":"2002-10-27T14:24:22","modified_gmt":"2002-10-27T19:24:22","slug":"how-about-market-down-for-the-year-on-fears-of-endless-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alevin.com\/?p=54","title":{"rendered":"How about, market down for the year on fears of endless war?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ratcliffe.com\/bizblog\/2002\/10\/25.html#a146\">Mitch Ratcliffe<\/a> picked up a Slate story by <a href=http:\/\/slate.msn.com\/?id=2073185\">Daniel Gross<\/a>, speculating that the stock market was up on Friday in response to Senator Wellstone&#8217;s death.<br \/>\nHere&#8217;s what I <a href=\"http:\/\/slate.msn.com\/?id=3936&amp;m=4834110\">posted<\/a> to the Slate discussion board in response:<br \/>\nIt seems ludicrous to theorize about the market bouncing on Friday in response to Senator Wellstone&#8217;s death without also drawing a connection between the market&#8217;s terrible performance over the last year and business concerns about the prospect for war without end.<br \/>\nIf anything, it seems just as logical to attribute the market&#8217;s rise over the last few weeks to the apparent easing of the threat of imminent war. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2002\/10\/06\/opinion\/polls\/main524496.shtml\">Polls show<\/a> most Americans worry about the potential for war with Iraq to spread elsewhere in the Middle East, and fear that the administration hasn&#8217;t thought through the requirements and consequences of a long-term occupation.
