{"id":64,"date":"2002-11-06T09:20:51","date_gmt":"2002-11-06T14:20:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alevin.com\/?p=64"},"modified":"2002-11-06T09:20:51","modified_gmt":"2002-11-06T14:20:51","slug":"what-he-said","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alevin.com\/?p=64","title":{"rendered":"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hyperorg.com\/blogger\/\">What he said<\/a>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m politically pretty moderate, with some very strong opinions on specific issues that cross party lines.<br \/>\nThe current administration is in favor of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>spending a lot of money we don&#8217;t have<\/li>\n<li>reducing civil liberties in ways, like secret trials, that this country was started in order to avoid<\/li>\n<li>moving beyond legitimate self-defense to miltary adventurism<\/li>\n<li>protecting the oil industry instead of getting cost-effective energy technology that frees us from middle east dependence and smog<\/li>\n<li>pursuing a foreign policy that emphasises weapons of destruction at the expense of <a href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/www.economist.com\/displayStory.cfm?Story_ID=S%27%29H%3C%2CP%21%2F%27%20%40%214%0A&amp;CFID=8721012&amp;CFTOKEN=1ca1944-9f7ab9c2-f56e-42d9-b713-c01094e501aa\">weapons of salvation<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m pretty worried about the consequences of these policies.  They could make this country and the world a lot worse for a long time.<br \/>\n(The Economist article might cost money to read; it&#8217;s Jeffrey Sachs on proven-effective ways of reducing poverty and suffering around the world.
